The end of Wanderers FC - time to gloat

The 2005/2006 English Premier League season is over, so I briefly report on my final fantasy football season.

My team, Wanderers FC, won in round 1 and sat 4th, won again and sat 2nd in Round 2 and won again to sit 1st in Round 3. We held top spot all the way through the rest of the season to Round 38, finishing 103rd out of 13,664 players and 7th of all players originating from South Australia.

Wanderers FC recorded 32 wins, 1 draw and 5 losses. Netbusters were second, three wins behind with 29-1-8. My understudy, Jared, came third with his Spartans 28-0-10. Well done Jared. My mates more attuned to Australian Rules football came 11th and 15th out of 20 respectively.

Can you tell yet that I don't win competitions very often?

My final line-up:

Petr Cech (Chelsea)
Sami Hyypia (Liverpool), Kolo Toure (Arsenal), Gary Neville (Manchester United, captain)
Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Kevin Nolan (Bolton), Joe Cole (Chelsea), Stelios Giannakopoulos (Bolton), Charles N'Zogbia (Newcastle)
Thierry Henry (Arsenal), Didier Drogba (Chelsea).

Bench:
Pepe Reina (Liverpool), John Terry (Chelsea), Bruno N'Gotty (Bolton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

Those who featured during the year: a cameo from our Harry Kewell (Liverpool), his team-mate played for most of the season, Steven Gerrard; likewise Manchester United's Ruud Van Nistlerooy (replaced late in the season for his team-mate Louis Saha when Sir Alex Ferguson sought to experiment with his forward setup). Credit also to Edwin Van Der Sar (Manchester United), Steve Finnan (Liverpool) and William Gallas (Chelsea) who played pivotal roles during the season.

Sadly 2005-2006 did not see my team, Southampton Saints, bounce back up from the Championship to the Premier League. Hopefully next year, with George Burley in charge, we can get back to where we belong.

Also, due to focus on the Sportal competition referred to above, I had less interest and focus on my premierleague.com fantasy football team, such that I could not emulate my top-4% finish out of 750,000 players last year - finishing about 110,000th out of 800,000-or-so.

For now attention shifts rightly to the World Cup, come on you Socceroos, do us proud!
