Joshua's 5th Birthday Party

All was in readiness for Joshua's big 5 birthday on the Queen's Birthday Monday holiday, falling on 11 June 2007 this year (1 day before his birthday). All was in readiness:

The "Guido" birthday cake inspired by the Italian forklift character in the "Cars" movie. "Pit stop!" ...

The balloons were out the front - blue, of course ...

And the table settings were in place, with all the guests having hard-harts with their names written on the front. Those are Bob the Builder machines in the middle of the table, and can you guess where the girls will be sitting?

It was a Sandpit Party, and what a stroke of genius that was by Mum and Dad. We had just finished constructing our sandpit, and decided to let the kids (3 boys (incl. Joshua), 3 girls) fill it up with sand from a trailer. The kids took to the task at hand readily and loved it, and it wore them out too! When they were worn out we had birthday lunch and cake. Rikki sat back and watched the kids unload his trailer load of sand for him!

Here's the sandpit in the early stages of filling. We got the children to bring their Tonka trucks, buckets and spades and have some great video of the 3 boys trucking the sand back and forth, and the girls shoveling away with their buckets. For the sake of parent's and kids' privacy, I'll share those with those who request it by adding a comment to this blog (which I won't publish), by e-mailing me or asking for them.

Once the party guests were all gone Simeon and Joshua joined Kristin and Rikki in the sandpit for a little while. Simeon was very "that's a freaky feeling" sitting with bare feet in the sand, but yep, you guessed it, by the end he had eaten some and was covered in it...
