Saturday - The Wedding
After enjoying the comfort of our apartment, we attended the best example of a well-planned wedding I've seen. Things went off without a hitch and congratulations to Cheyne and Mel for that. The only downside Mel couldn't control - 38 degrees, the hottest Sydney day for that date on record! The reception was lovely and thankfully a cool change blew in later in the evening which saw a number of people enjoying the seating in the gardens outside.
Sunday - Sydney Harbour, Manly and kickin' back
With the wedding over, we headed off in the morning for Sydney Harbor, visiting the markets at the Rocks, taking the ferry along the harbor to Manly and back again. We got a cheap man's Harbor Cruise and it was great. Joshua especially loved riding the front of the ferry as we crossed the mouth of the Harbor and rode up and down the swell there. Unfortunately it was only 19 degrees so Manly Beach was a "been there, done that" experience - then we were off. Our apartment had FoxSports so I was stayed at the apartment to see a cracker-jack Melbourne Victory v Adelaide United game, while the girls and Jordan went off for the Hillsong Experience. They left the service early for a family "event" - watching Australian Idol live (farewell Bobby the Freak). I wasnt interested but fortunately Perth Glory v. Queensland Roar was the late game on Fox Sports Sunday!
Monday - Parramatta to Young via Katoomba, Jenolan and Oberon
We set off to Katoomba - the longer way back to Young - to see if we could see anything at Katoomba (the Three Sisters, Cable Car etc). Sadly the crowd was still lingering at 1000 metres so that, in fact, we were later driving through the clouds. We could see nothing and only saw the waterfalls going a bit there. We decided to press on to Jenolan Caves as surely there'd be no clouds and mizzle (combination of mist and drizzle) there. We had to drive through thick cloud / mizzle and the road wound down and down, but finally we got there. I've never been there, Kristin had - and it was awesome. We visited Imperial Cave which Joshua loved, as he walked straight through as we stooped to pass through some sections. He bragged the caves were "just his height" as if they'd been custom-made for little boys. We went on through Oberon and Bathurst back to Young for more great hospitality from Sue, Jared and Simon.
Tuesday - Young to Mildura via Temora
This was a long day of driving, with a car full with Roz with us this time but no presents for the wedding, so not as full as going to Sydney. The weather was fine which was a blessing, and we had a fairly enjoyable but long trip. Too cool for a dip in the pool at Mildura but it was great to only be 5 hours from home. We saw some stupid driving just before the Victorian border, including a truck leaving too little room to overtake (I was sure he'd crash) and a minibus driving along with a boy's legs hanging out the window. Both cars with Victorian number plates...
Wednesday - Mildura to Adelaide via Berri, Barmera
We popped by to see Nanna Lambert and Aunty Nancy briefly at Berri, then on for an early lunch at Barmera (thanks again Nanna and Poppa). We pressed on to Adelaide and arrived about 3:30pm. It was great to be home and we don't think in the near term we'll do such a big car trip again. Fortunately the car ran well and petrol prices stayed relatively low for us. It was a special trip with great memories of Cheyne and Mel's wedding and the people we stayed with along the way.
